Hello,

We have a valid "Spire.PDF Pro Edition" license and we use this component in a windows forms application inside our corporation. For some reason, since last week, some computers does not recognize the license and when the component is use, the phrases "Evaluation Warning: The document was created with Spire.PDF for .NET." and "Evaluation Warning: the version can be used only for evaluation purpose".
The application still works normaly on others computers. We've made some tests about account administrator privileges and Windows Update but we could not find the reason why some computers does not recognize the license.

Can you help us with this issue?

Thanks in advance

Some addicional information:

- version used: Spire.Pdf for .NET 10.6.25
- Environment: Visual Studio 2022 Professional + Windows 10 Pro 64 bits
- .NET Framework 4.8

Hi,

Thank you for your inquiry.
Please note that the Site Small Business license you have purchased allows 10 developers and 10 deployment locations (identified by a unique machine ID/MAC address) to use it. When the license is used on machines beyond this limit, it will not be effective, the output file will have the warning messages. We have checked that your license usage had exceeded this limit. To remove these warning messages on those machines, please upgrade the license to the SITE OEM type is required. This higher-level license provides more flexibility and can be used across multiple deployment locations.

Hi Doris,

Thank you for your prompt response.

We have reviewed our understanding of the licensing terms, and we would like to clarify a few points regarding our deployment scenario. According to our interpretation of the licensing for desktop applications, a deploy location refers to a geographic location where the desktop application is installed. This implies that multiple desktops within the same geographic location (e.g., our organization's headquarters) should count as a single deploy location. For web applications, we understand that each deploy location corresponds to a unique server machine (source: e-iceblue License Subscription).

In our case, we utilize Spire.PDF for both internal desktop and web applications. Our web applications are deployed across some servers, and all our desktop applications are installed within a single geographic location at our headquarters in downtown Rio de Janeiro.

Based on this, we calculated our deploy locations as the sum of the web application servers plus one deploy location for all desktop installations, as all desktops are physically located at our headquarters.

Could you please confirm if our understanding is correct?

Additionally, we would appreciate it if you could send us a detailed list of the current deployment locations associated with our licenses to our registered email (we have 2 licenses: one for Spire.PDF and another for Spire.DOC). This would help us audit and identify which deployments correspond to our web applications and which to our desktop applications, allowing us to plan our next steps accordingly.

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,

Hi Tribunalcontasrj,

Apologies for the confused description. A deployment location is identified by a unique MAC address/machine ID, regardless of the application type. We have revised the description of our website.
Regarding the specific deployment locations information, I'm sorry, but we do not have access to the Mac information of the license.

Sincerely,
Doris

Hi Doris,

Thank you for your response.

I must express my concern and disappointment regarding the sudden change in the definition of "deployment location" on your website. When we originally purchased the license, the definition was clearly stated as follows: "For desktop applications, a deploy location refers to a geography location where your custom application is installed; for web applications, a deploy location refers to a geography location where your server(s) is/are located. A geography location is defined as a location that has a unique house number."

This definition guided our deployment strategy and usage calculations. The recent change to define a deployment location solely by unique MAC address/machine ID significantly alters the terms under which we initially agreed.

Given this, we respectfully request that the original terms under which we purchased our licenses (both Spire.PDF and Spire.DOC) be honored until the next renewal of the software. This would ensure that we are not unfairly penalized by a sudden and unilateral change in the licensing terms, which occurred after we raised our inquiry.

We hope for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

Best regards,

To support our case, we are attaching screenshots of your website demonstrating these changes in the definition.
